A large necklace of streaked pink elements with a wenge walnut and gold closure.

I created this major necklace starting from rhodochrosite elements of intense striped pink colour, cut in the form of faceted geometric plates.

For the closure I carved a wenge plate, of the same form as rhodochrosite, drilled at one end, and forged a gold hammer with two small boules of pink coral and smoky quartz.

Pink stone par excellence, rhodochrosite was known to the Incas (the 'rose of lncas’ it is the splendid variety found in Argentina).
It is a stone that occurs in compact 'cluster' masses, with precious white designs; it is rarely in crystalline form. Intense pink color, with white veins. The transparent variety is reddish in color.
The largest deposits are located in the United States, Peru, South Africa, Russia ed Argentina.
In jewelry it is often cut to cabochon or in other shapes from which to obtain elegant jewels.

I chose Wengé walnut for the closure due to its complementary color to rhodochrosite and the very marked grains characteristic of this precious wood. The yellow gold hammer gives the closure the preciousness that completes this necklace.

I slipped on the rosary necklace, with burnished silver thread, to give it more fluency and the right distance between the elements.
